Handwritten assessment video:
Letting Mathew grade the activities students do on paper helps save time and provide quick grading.
You only need Mathew to create the activities, hand out the sheets to the students so they can answer them, and then scan or upload a photo so Mathew grades them automatically.
Step by step:
1. Select the Paper option when creating a new activity
When you start creating an activity, make sure you choose the Paper mode so it is generated in printable format.
When you select the paper format, a new option will open to choose who will upload the answers to Mathew: the students or the teacher
2. Create the activity using your preferred method
Select how you want to create the activity:
Example: Create an activity from content available on the platform.
You can include any type of exercise. Mathew will grade them automatically once the answers are uploaded:
3. Finish creating
When you finish creating the activity, you can:
Schedule and download immediately
Or do it later from the activity panel
⚠️ Important: Downloading is essential in order to print the sheets and hand them out to students.
Once saved, you can go back to the activity and download the file at any time, if needed:
⚠️ Important notice
Before downloading, make sure that all the students who need to do the activity are enrolled in the class.
The sheets are generated with each student's personalised details, and it is not possible to add students after downloading.
4. Collect the handwritten sheets and upload the submissions
Once the students have completed the activity on paper and handed in their sheets:
Scan or take photos of the exercises
Upload the files to the platform
Each sheet must contain the student's details. If you use blank sheets for open questions, they must include first name, last name, identifier and the exercise number:
You can upload:
Individual files
Or multiple files at once, from an ADF scanner or the photos you have taken:
You can upload the submissions directly from the files on your computer, or scan the QR code to upload them from your mobile device.
If you upload from a mobile device, this is the view you will see:
Mathew will let you know if the uploads completed successfully or if any errors occurred that you can review:
5. Review the submissions before grading
Before starting the automatic grading, you can review all the uploaded submissions to make sure they are legible and that no errors are flagged.
6. Grade with Mathew
Click "Grade with Mathew" to start the automatic grading.
You can see the grading status in real time:
7. Review and adjust the grades
Once the grading is complete:
Review the results
Modify the assessments if needed
Adjust the grade for each exercise and for the whole activity
As with digital grading, Mathew provides feedback for both students and the teacher, clearly explaining the reason for each grade and assessment. In addition, this feedback is editable, allowing the teacher to adjust it as they see fit:

If, when creating the activity, you selected that the student is the one who uploads their work to Mathew, then when they open the activity they can download the document to complete it.
Once finished, they can send their answers to the teacher in two ways: by scanning the QR code and uploading the file, or by dragging the file directly.
This way, the teacher will receive the work and Mathew can grade it easily.
